art...
a group of us ventured to the newly renovated mississippi museum of art. i've always gone, but the new museum is put together so much better. this was my second visit since the renovation.
this was one of the works of art i saw yesterday. it's part of the migration series by jacob lawrence. in total there are 60 panels which are his interpretation of the migration from the south to the north. the ones presented are the odd numbered panels. it just so happens the collection was split many years back. even without all the panels, you can see the strength of his work...his vision. if you're in town or just coming for a visit, i highly recommend you see it. the museum will only have it until april 13th.
while we were there, we also took two other exbihits. one was seen in solitude. it is a collection of lithographs and mezzotints by robert kipness. the other was student work competing in the scholastics arts awards of the mississippi region. i must say there some talented kids coming up. the price for this afternoon of beauty and enlightenment was $5. you can't beat that.
