the littlest snitch

Img_1512_5 here is the face of the littlest snitch i know.  don't let that cute face fool you!

my niece has developed a habit of throwing her toys on the floor.  and she does not like to be challenged about it.  so we had a face-off.  she dropped...i popped her little hand.  the face was priceless.  after getting out of her walker, she went over to my mother.  and even though she can only say mama & dada, she snitched on me.  she told it in baby babble  and then pointed me out like she was in a courtroom.  you gotta love the kids.

also miss thing just started walking while she was here as well.  check her out :)

only stuff like this happens to me...

Fwd: only stuff like this happens to me...

so i go out to lunch and i notice my back right tire is making a clunking noise. the tire was riding funny since last night. i figured i need air, so i go and get air. while i'm adding air to the tire, i notice the valve cap on the front right tire is missing. i go across the street to the part store to buy new valve caps. after screwing on the cap, i notice the tire is flat again. someone was kind enough to help me change the tire.

this is what they pulled out my tire. it's about 4 1/2 inches long.

and this is the new tire i just bought 3 months ago. .

happy birthday daddy

if he would have lived, my father would have been 63 today.  he passed away a little over 5 years ago from the deadly combination that takes away many of our black men...heart attack & stroke.  my daddy lived the last 11 years of his life on dialysis.  his kidneys were damaged by medication.  however he never really complained.  every monday, wednesday and friday, he was driven to the dialysis unit where they cared for him until his passing.

before my father was sick, he was a teacher of mississippi history and civics.  he taught for 27 years before he retired.  shortly after retirement, he suffered his second stroke which distorted his speech and altered his memory at times.  i found that quite ironic....a man who devoted his life to speaking and giving through his voice had it somewhat taken away from him.  those around him knew exactly what he meant, but to strangers it sounded very foreign.   but he never let their misunderstandings deter him from getting his message across.

my daddy was the one who taught me how to cook.  he made the best sweet potato pies.  hell he made the best anything :)  on weekends, he cooked at a deer camp every fall and winter until he got sick.  even after, he still could direct you how to make his pies.  daddy also was gifted with a green thumb which i believe has passed me by.  he could grow anything from a house plant to a garden full of food.  he had it.

daddy also taught me what i should look for in a man.  while my parents were married, their shared household duties with one exception.  since he was a teacher, he arrived home first.  my daddy did a majority of the cooking, which my mom loved.  there wasn't a division of husband/wife roles in my home growing up.  i remember them working together to accomplish whatever needed to be done.  in the summers off, he did everything from delivering telephone books, mowing lawns at cemeteries and delivering avon.  that's what i call a work ethic.

happy birthday daddy...i miss you.

shameless plug time:)

my cousin a.c. thomas has put pen to paper and wrote his story of growing up here in the state.  the book is called the color of success

my gettin' finer update

it's been about two months since i posted my weight loss ticker up top.  and with those two months down, i still am only 6 pounds lighter.  i was doing my four days of exercise a week until two weeks ago.  then i started getting ready for some shows.  i reduced it to one day a week.  i know that's not good.

i can report i have lost some inches.  i didn't take an initial measurement.  i know i've lost because i got into a pair of jeans i couldn't fit into two months ago.

in honor of breast cancer awareness month, i'm going pink.  this is my second year and it's so easy to do as well.  breast cancer has taken away many women in my family, so i am very aware of this disease.  for more info on how this started, check out pink for october .  if you don't want to totally pink out, slap a banner on your blog :)

riddle me this...

here's a situation for yall...

you were friends with someone from the ages of 12-28...basically half your life.  you were like sisters.  the two of your were inseparable.  you're even godmother to one of her kids.  after 28, you lose contact with the person.  the first year you try to reconnect.  you email and call for birthdays.  you get dismissed.  the second year, you don't even bother.  after that, you write it off to life.

this past weekend, you bump into this person.  they are nonreactive to you.  they greet you by your last name like you're a stranger.  they shake your hand and keep it moving.  does it bother you?

walking away friday night, i chalked it all up to life.  over time we've moved in different circles.  it's not that i intended it but it just worked out that way.  the first couple of years, i felt guilty because i didn't try to keep up the friendship.  then i started to think that i was trying and the other party wasn't.  why was i feeling bad?  i sent a email or two that went unanswered.  when i did call, they weren't returned.  i wrote it off to life.

over the years since we disconnected, i developed a new circle of friends.  i guess these are my grown-up friends.  but sometimes it's different not having someone who you thought knew you so well...from the time you were young.  they were around when you were developing into the person your grown-up friends see now.  i'm too old to be walking around with regret...

but sometimes down deep, i still think i'm being a punk because i don't pick up the phone.

your favorite blogger (aight my favorite blogger...me) is in 3rd in my fantasy football league.  i'm actually surprising myself!  i love football, but i admit i am becoming a little obsessed with managing my team.   i'm not  going to get all caught up though.  it's still early  and  this league is  has some great managers.  i'll keep yall updated :)

today...

was a sucky one!  i can't say exactly what happened, but for the last two weeks i've worked my ass off.  it's sad to think that others around you don't or can't do the same...

Pets – aki (the dog) and cocoa & lola (ferrets)

Essential Electronic – my black macbook and now my htc s621.  i can be anywhere and pretty much be able to get online.

Perfume/Cologne – the last i bought was "hot" by ralph lauren.  there is one i love called "halloween" by jesus de pozo.  other than that, oils.

Gold or silver – silver.   if i'm not wearing my own stuff (shameless plug) i wear silver.  i have a sterling silver ankh bracelet i wear basically every day.

Insomnia – i've never suffered from it.  in fact i could sleep for hours if you let me.

Job Title – chief chemist.

Most Admired Trait – folk tell my i have a great smile, beautiful eyes and a wicked sense of humor.  also i am told i am dependable beyond a fault.

Kids – i actually only wanted 1.  now i'm moved that up to 3.

Religion – i was baptized when i was 8.  now i consider myself more spiritual than religious.  i don't go to anyone's church.

Siblings – 1 brother, 1 sister and 6 step-siblings.

Time I wake up – 7 AM.

Unusual talent/skill – i can turn off the tub with my feet.  i can do an awesome upward facing bow (see the photo on the cover of my yoga album)

Worst habit – i pick at my fingers and cuticles.

X-rays – only when i go to the dentist.
